Pervert convicted for sodomising minor, made to compensate victim
A Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act court last week found a 20year-old man guilty for sodomising a minor boy in April 2015. On October 11, the accused was given seven years rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs 25,000 as compensation to the rape survivor.
A senior officer from Mumbai police said strong evidence collected from the crime spot helped the investigators to get accused, Wajid Ali Shaikh, convicted in the sensitive case.
“The case was registered in April 2015. The victim had come to Mumbai from his home town in Uttar Pradesh to undergo training in haircutting at a salon. After the training session, all the workers of the salon used to sleep inside. The survivor had complained that he was sodomised by Shaikh at razor (ustra) point,” said an officer from LT Marg police station. The police had also recovered the razor from the crime spot.
After registering the FIR, the police had collected semen from the spot and clothes of the duo — victim and the accused — wore on the night of the incident. “We had immediately sent the evidence to Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Kalina for further investigation and then the victim and the accused were sent to hospital for medical examinations. We constantly followed the procedure and the FSL report revealed everything. Based on the medical as well as FSL reports, we convinced the Special Judge for Sessions Court to get Shaikh convicted,” said the officer.
Shaikh was booked under sections 377 (unnatural sex), 506(2) (criminal intimidation) of IPC and under relevant provisions of POCSO case.
