Hindu terror Haasan’s stepping stone to politics

- OUR CORRESPONDENT

The BJP, RSS and their affiliated outfits were seething with anger on Thursday after veteran actor Kamal Haasan commented that ‘Hindu terror’ is a reality.

The actor, who is looking at positioning himself in Tamil Nadu politics, touched a raw saffron nerve with senior BJP leader Vinay Katiyar calling him “mentally unstable”. For- mer Union Minister and BJP leader Subramanian Swamy also took a dig at Haasan, saying being an actor he was simply reading out scripts written by the Communists.

The aforesaid comment was made in response to a question from Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who had asked the actor about what the recent surge in communalism which seeks to destroy the Tamil Dravidian tradition of peaceful co-existence.

Hassan, who also writes a column in the popular Tamil magazine Ananda Vikatan, elaborated on his Hindu terror hypotheses. "The right wing cannot challenge the talk of Hindu terror because terror has indeed sneaked into their camp as well." "Hindus are losing faith in 'satyameva jayate' and instead subscribing to the dictum 'might is right'," he wrote. Such a course,’’ he cautioned, ‘‘will make us all barbar- ians’’.

Hassan, however, is convinced that this effort to turn the whole world on its head, will not succeed – somewhat like makeup that won’t last for long. He concluded by saying in his article that Kerala was an example of social justice (recently the State appointed a Dalit as temple priest), and the day was not far off when Tamil Nadu will again stand as an example of social justice, too.
