Viraj stars for Horizon Academy

Viraj Sonawane’s all-round performanc­e steered Horizon Academy into the third round with an emphatic 93-run win over Ryan Internatio­nal, Khargar, in the Associatio­n of ICSE Schools in the Maharashtr­a (AISM) Regional T20 Inter-Schools Cricket Tournament, organized by N.L. Dalmia High School, Mira Road, at the Oval Maidan on Thursday.

After Horizon won the toss and elected to bat in a Group B match, Sonawane slammed 73 runs that helped his team reach 149 for 6. Inspired by his half-century, Sonawane later snared four wickets for 15 runs that earned him the manof-the-match and helped skittle out Ryan for just 56 runs. In another Group B second round tie, Kapol Vidyanidhi Internatio­nal registered a narrow 16-run win over St. Peter’s after man of the match Krish Dalal’s impressive 70. Elect- ing to bat, Kapol scored 181 for five and survived anxious moments as St. Peter's came close but were restricted to 165 for six. Cathedral & John Connon, Gokuldham and Ryan Internatio­nal, Malad were second round winners in Group A.
