Tejashwi to lead party in next Assembly polls: Lalu

- CHHAYA MISHRA

Reaffirming the accession of Tejashwi Yadav as his successor, RJD chief Lalu Prasad on Friday said his younger son will lead the party in the next Bihar Assembly polls.

On Wednesday, RJD state President Raam Chander Purve had proposed Tejashwi Yadav’s name as the next chief ministerial candidate. Lalu, when asked for reaction on Purve’s comment that the next government would be formed by the party under leadership of Tejashwi Yadav, praised the leadership quality of Tejashwi and said that he was well ahead than many leaders.

“He (Tejashwi) is way ahead of all of us in terms of leadership ability and oratory. I am not saying this merely because he is my son,” the RJD chief told reporters.

This is not the first time that Lalu has stated that it was Tejashwi who was going to be his political successor rather than his elder brother Tejpratap and his daughter Misa, who is a Rajya Sabha member.

In July, when the JDU left the grand alliance, then too Lalu had openly praised Tejashwi saying that the ‘’young boy’’ had done good work as a minister and a deputy CM in the Nitish Kumar cabinet. The speech that Tejashwi gave in the Assembly after JDU had joined the NDA was also appreciated by Lalu and his party members.

A former deputy chief minister, Tejashwi Yadav is now Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar assembly. However, senior RJD party leader Abdul Bari Siddiqui and Raghuvansh Prasad Singh later expressed their disagreement over Purve’s view and reportedly said that there was no clarity yet on the next chief ministerial candidate of the party.
