Mumbai cornered

-

Visting Baroda’s Opener Aditya Waghmode and skipper Deepak Hooda put them in a commanding 205-run lead to put hosts Mumbai on the backfoot in their Group C match during second day’s play at the Wankhede Stadium on Friday.

Alongwith Waghmode and Hooda, Solanki and Swapnil singh also played their part to perfection. Waghmode 15 overnight, was off to a cautious start and took 134 balls to reach his 50 and later on went on to assert himself to score 138 of 309 balls, which included 13 fours and six. His innings was very well supported by No.3 Vishnu Solanki (54) and No.5 Swapil Singh (63).

Hooda, who was dropped on 38 by keeper Aditya Tare off a attempted pull, kept him company at the other end in his watch innings of 75 runs after Baroda notched up 250. Gohil got him to pull one to deepmidwicket.

Solanki added 85 for the second wicket with Waghmode, Singh put on 105 for the fourth. Left-arm spinner Gohil was expensive and gave away 115 runs for a wicket off 26 overs.

Dhawal Kulkarni and Abhishek Nayar went wicketless. Unless Mumbai boys show their famous ‘Khadoos’ spirt in remaning two days, cornered Mumbai may have to lose their reputation which is at stake.

At Mumbai: Mumbai 171 all out in 56.2 overs (Aditya Tare 50, Atit Sheth 5 for 50, Lukman Meriwala 5 for 52) vs Baroda 376 for 4 in 115 overs (Vishnu Solanki 32, Aditya Waghmode 136, Deepak Hooda 75, Swapnil Singh 63 batting, Roystan Dias 1 for 16).
