- STAFF REPORTER

A 17-year-old died on the spot after he jumped the red light and dashed into a car in Bandra (East) on Saturday night. The condition of pillion rider Aateesh Chudiwala (18), who is in Sion Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit, is said to be critical.

The deceased, Siraj Ahmed Shaikh, was not wearing a helmet and was out with his colleague Chudiwala on a joy ride. “Siraj jumped the red light and rammed into a radio taxi at Platina junction on BKC Road. The taxi driver, Arvind Kumar Kamlesh Yadav (27), has suffered minor injuries. We initially took the trio to Bhabha Hospital where Shaikh was declared dead on arrival. Yadav was discharged after being administered first aid while Chudiwala was shifted to multi-speciality Sion hospital,’’ said an officer attached to Bandra Kurla Complex police station.

The police have acquired the CCTV footage of Platina junction where the accident took place. The officer said, “Two more motorcyclists were seen jumping the red light. Shaikh was leading the pack. We are probing if they were planning a midnight race. The motorcyclists were going from Kurla to Bandra and the cab was proceeding from the MMRDA Ground to Sofitel hotel, BKC.”

Thankfully, there was no passenger inside the cab.

Shaikh lived with his parents in Kurla and Chudiwala is a resident of Kalina.
