BHENDI BAZAAR REDEVELOPMENT PROJECT GETS PUSH FROM MHADA
The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) who is the decision maker regarding the Bhendi Bazaar redevelopment work has ensured to speed up the pending process. Milind Mhaiskar, Vice President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MHADA, visited the Bhendi Bazaar Redevelopment Project on November 17, 2017, accompanied by Sumant Bhange – Chief Officer of Mumbai Building Repair and Reconstruction Board (MBR&R) along with other officers to understand the on-ground progress and challenges faced by the Saifee Burhani Trust (SBUT) while undertaking this massive redevelopment project.
During the visit he instructed his team to fasttrack the certification of the balance buildings and expedite the process of clearing the pending appeals. “A special task-force will deployed by MHADA to clear these pending activities”, he added.
The visit was followed with a brief walk through the crowded lanes of Bhendi Bazaar. The officers discussed on various issues and also observed the current work in progress and the quality of development undertaken to rehab the tenants.
The redevelopment project initiated under Development Control Regulation (DCR) No. 33(9) by the Saifee Burhani trust (SBUT) will transform the crippling Bhendi Bazaar into a smart & sustainable & healthy neighbourhood which will infuse growth, attract new businesses & investment, increase employment and contribute to the overall socio-economic growth of the people.
The underlining objective of the project is to uplift the lives of all the people living in the Bhendi Bazaar area. Currently the trust has vacated over 2000 tenants from Bhendi Bazaar. The construction of sub-clusters 1 & 3 is in full swing. It is expected that over 600 residential and 250 commercials will be rehabbed in these sub-clusters within two years. The master layout plan has been approved for all the sub-clusters.
