- STAFF REPORTER

The Navi Mumbai police arrested four persons late on Saturday evening in connection with the Bank of Baroda robbery case.

Based on the Call Details Records (CDR) retrieved by the police and the CCTV footage, four persons were arrested in connection with the heist at Juinagar’s Bank of Baroda. However, at the time of going to press, senior police officials have denied making any arrests in the case.

According to Sudhakar Pathare, Deputy of Commissioner of Police (Zone 1), “We are going through the Call Details Records(CDR) of the two detained persons. We are zeroing on the links between the main suspect and his accomplices. No arrest has been made as yet. Our teams have been working on it. I cannot divulge anymore information at this moment.”

Two persons were detained after the police found CCTV footage in which they were seen escaping after the heist. Meanwhile, the police have seized a car used for the crime.

The detained persons were picked up from Dhule in Maharashtra. However, the police refused to ascertain if the main suspect, Genu Bacchan Prasad, is also one of the detained persons. Prasad had rented the Balaji store in May this year. A 25-feet tunnel was dug from the store to reach the locker room of the bank. 30 lockers out of the 225 lockers were tampered and Rs 3.19 crore gold and silver jewellery was stolen.

The miscreants had entered the bank by digging a 25-feet tunnel across five shops to break into the locker room of the bank. The dacoity took place at Sector 11 at plot number 6 near Juinagar railway station. The incident came to light on Monday morning when the bank re-opened and a staff member and a customer found the lockers in the treasury room damaged and reported the matter to a senior.

Senior police officials though have denied making any arrests in the case.
