Guj polls: BJP MP upset over ticket to daughter-in-law instead of fourth wife

- R K MISRA

Ask BJP member of parliament Prabhatsinh Chauhan who sought a Vidhan Sabha ticket for his fourth wife and now finds himself ‘sleeping with the enemy’ after the party high command gave it to his daughter-in-law.

Hell hath no fury than a wife scorned as Chauhan finds himself sandwiched between a daughter- in- law who is older than his last acquisition and a young wife.

Idioms and metaphors apart, Chauhan, BJP MP from Panchmahals sought to arm-twist his party top brass by threatening to contest as an independent if his fourth wife Rajeshwari was not given a ticket for the ensuing elections in Gujarat. The veteran of many a political battle knew that he would have his cake and eat it too but had no idea of the ‘dot’ ball that was on the way from old Gujarat hands Narendra ModiAmit Shah combine who call the shots. Instead of the wife, it is the daughter-in-law, Suman Chauhan who has been given the ticket from Kalol and now Prabhatsinh faces a domestic strife of elephantine proportions.

A sample. “Prabhatsinhe eni maa no dudh peedhu hoye to kalol prachar karva avee, mare chelej chee (If Prabhatsinh has really drank his mother’s milk, I challenge him to came and campaign in Kalol),” said his wife.

The challenge was posted on Facebook but was subsequently deleted after she was pacified. The fury however remains, enlarged by the traditional mother-in-law and daughter-in-law rivalry which stands further complicated by age implications. “There were 22 candidates the BJP had to choose from, why Suman,” she questioned.

With anger getting the better of her, Rajeshwari rushed to the state BJP headquarters here where she was pacified and persuaded to delete her Facebook comment.

The sanitised statement thereafter read “I will work for Modiji”.

The fact, however, is that Prabhatsinh sought to pull a fast one on his party and got one in return that flew over the cuckoo’s nest. He has multiple domestic fires to douse now.

Seeking to pull his charred chestnuts out of the raging ambers, Prabhatsinh has ended up hauling his party over the coals and hoisting his son by his own petard. He has shot of a letter to party chief Amit Shah disowning responsibility for ensuring victory of party candidates in the seven Assembly constituencies that make up his Parliamentary profile.
