Valentine, Meline, Shirpa win 100m gold

Valentine Fernandes from Gupta Sports Academy and Meline Rodriques from Holy Cross Sports Club won their respective men’s and women’s 100m sprint in almost identical fashion in the Poinsur Gymkhana’s 42nd Utter Mumbai Krida Mahotsav 2017 at their ground at Kandivali here today. Sharing with them the day’s 100m sprint honours, Shirpa Jayarajan bagged the girls under-16 gold.

In fact, both had to bring their best. Valentile just about pipped Anand Gond in 100m ( 11.7 secs) and Charu Ghadge (54.7 secs) in the 400m event while Kunika Waghela from VPM Sports Club was breathing down Meline’s neck all the way before Meline breasted the tape in 13.5 secs.

Three new records were set in the boys ( U-16 and U-14) and girls (U-12) sections. Results of the record-breaking event:Boys U-16: Triple Jump: Raj Gupta (VPM Sports Club) – 13.31 mts (NMR)- OR: 12.66mts. Boys U-14: Discus Throw:Yuvraj Gaikwad (Gupta SA)-33.20 (NMR) –OR: 26.84mts. Girls U12: 100m: Siya Sawant (Goenka Edu Trust) – 13.6 secs (NMR)OR:13.7. secs. Winners in various events: WOMEN: 100m: Meline Rodriques (Holy Cross SC)13.5 secs. Long Jump: Juily Bhovad (VPM SC) – 4.78mts. Discus Throw: Anam Kasmani (Holy Cross SC) – 23.73 mts MEN: 100m: Valentine Fernandes (Gupts SA) -11.7 secs. 400m: Valentine Fernandes (Gupts SA) - 54.7 secs. High jump:Aniruddha Aiyer (VPM SC) – 1.66 mts. Shot Put: Nimesh Desai (Gupta SA) – 14.55mts.
