Director keeps fingers crossed over screening of ‘S Durga’

- SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT

After Padmavati, it was the turn of ‘S Durga’ on Sunday to leave many ‘chanting’ her name at the ongoing IFFI venue in Goa. While few jury members and delegates claimed that the IFFI’s Indian Panorama jury will view the controversial film ‘S Durga’ on Monday evening, the director of the film Sanal Kumar Sasidharan didn’t seem optimistic about the screening to take place.

“We have been told about the screening of S Durga, for the 10-member jury taking place on Monday evening. Guess, after the Kerala High Court directive to IFFI organisers they are left with no option but to screen it before the Festival concludes on Tuesday,” said a film fraternity member on the condition of anonymity.

“There is no real evidence of the film being slotted or screened at IFFI. Precious days are being squandered as we wait for the IFFI to follow court orders and screen my film,” Sasidharan, was heard speaking to one of the media channels.

He also stated that if ‘S Durga’ is not screened at the festival, it would amount to contempt of court and leaving him with no option but to take legal action against the Ministry for Information and Broadcasting and the Government.

Meanwhile, members of Sanatan Sanstha and Gomantak Mandir Mahasangh on Saturday submitted a petition to the organisers requesting them not to screen the film.
