PM misleading people of Guj: Cong

The Congress on Monday came down heavily on Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his speeches in the Gujarat elections, saying he was displaying a “sick mind” spurting out total lies and this should be a matter of national concern.

Former Union Minister Anand Sharma expressed shock over Modi’s claim that the first prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, did nothing for Gujarat as if nothing happened in Gujarat or India before the rise of Modi and the Bhartiya Janata Party.

He said perhaps Modi has also forgotten that it was Nehru who decided after an agitation in Gujarat to constitute the State Reorganisation Commission because of

which Gujarat was established as a new state on May 1, 1960.

Sharma also took offence over PM’s claim that the Congress is always run by a family. “Perhaps he has no knowledge of the 132-year long history of Congress in which many great persons and women have been its presidents and not from only Nehru-Gandhi family.

The list of the Congress presidents is long but some names be repeated for PM’s knowledge that they include Mahatma Gandhi, Subhash Chandra Bose, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Gopal Krishna Gokhle, Lala Lajpatrai and Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya, he said.

He also criticise PM for alleging that Congress had provided a dynasty rule in the country. Just to remind him that the last member of the Nehru-Gandhi family who became the Prime Minister in January 1985 was Rajiv Gandhi that is 32 years. He was assassinated 26 years ago.

If the Congress wanted the dynasty to rule, Sharma said, Rahul Gandhi was an elected MP for 10 years during the UPA regime and he refused to even join the government as a minister despite repeated request by then PM Manmohan Singh.
