New football club launched in Mumbai
The Colaba Sports League and the Vile Parle Football League, two separate entities, have joined hands to set up the ‘Community Football Club of India’, which was launched at a function at the WIFA Banquet Hall, Cooperage, on Tuesday evening.
During the function to announce newly formed club and the Club’s logo, a football book, ‘Bayern Factor’, An Untold Story, authored by Kaushik Moulik was also released, in the presence of Dr. Jurgen Morhard, German Consulate General, Aditya Thackeray, President, Mumbai District Football Association, WIFA Hon. Gen. Secretary Souter Vaz, CEO Henry Menezes and a host of other dignitaries.
“The Football scene in Mumbai is growing and is becoming a big success. This has been a great year for Indian Football by hosting the FIFA U-17 World Cup. I am thankful to Didi (West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee) for pulling off the final of such a mega event.
“Kolkata witnessed a phenomenal atmosphere with thousands of fans watching the finals. All of us have to recognize that over football is growing in the country and such initiatives like the new club, Community FC of India, it will certainly help take India to the big league,” said Thackeray.
Community Football Club of India is an initiative to promote football across the country and create a platform for young and budding footballers across the city, state and nation.
The club will have the guidance of ‘A’ Licensed Coaches, former international Godfred Pereira and Farooque Ahmed as its technical directors and its vision is to play the youth I-League competition in the coming years.
“Our aim and vision through this new club is to develop more and more budding footballers in Mumbai and India. I as the Head Coach have drawn up an elaborate curriculum which will help the players to learn the basics and also to improve their skills.
Farooque and I will be assisted by qualified coaching staff that would help the young footballers to follow the curriculum. Initially we will focus on grassroots and youth development. I thank both Colaba Sports League and Vile Parle Football League for this initiative,” Godfrey Pereira stated.
