This doc prefers booze as bribe

DOCTOR HELD FOR MOLESTING PATIENT

A senior medical officer attached to the civic body in Bhayandar has been held for accepting liquor bottles as bribe instead of the usual cash.

The chief medical officer (CMO) in the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporatio­n (MBMC) landed into the custody of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) after he was caught red handed while accepting alcohol bottles of various brands which he had demanded as bribe from another doctor to enroll him in the panel of civic doctors.

According to the ACB, the accused has been identified as Dr Prakash Jadhav who demanded bottles Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) of various brands along with Rs 10,000 cash from the complainan­t to update his status from waiting to confirmed in the panel enrollment process. However, the aggrieved complainan­t registered a complaint with the Thane unit of the ACB. A team led by Police Inspector Salil Bhosale laid a trap outside the wine shop on Saturday evening and arrested Jadhav while he was accepting a box containing 10 bottles of Blender’s Pride Whisky and three bottles each of Vodka and Rum worth more than Rs 15,000. The accused had demanded the bottles to facilitate a booze session on occasion of Sports Day organized by the local medical associatio­n on Sunday. The tainted doctor who is the president of the associatio­n has been booked under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act,1988 and will be produced before the ACB court on Sunday. BHAYANDAR: In a shameful act which shatters the society's faith in the sanctity of a noble profession, a 31-year-old homoeopath­ic doctor was arrested by the Navhar police on Saturday for allegedly trying to outrage the modesty of a female patient at his clinic in Bhayandar (East).

The complainan­t, a 27year-old housewife claimed the homoeopath identified as Raj Sriprakash Gupta called her to Balaji Clinic after she sought an appointmen­t for a cure to her skin ailment.

It was during the physical examinatio­n that the accused touched her inappropri­ately when no one else was present in the chamber, police said.

“We have arrested the doctor and booked him under section 354,” confirmed Senior Police Inspector Ram Bhalsingh.

Further investigat­ions are on.
