Karunanidhi protected me akin to a mother, says Raja

-

A day after all accused in the 2G spectrum allocation scam case were acquitted by the trial court in New Delhi, former Telecom Minister A Raja, prime accused in the case, wrote an emotional letter to his political mentor and DMK president M Karunanidhi dedicated the verdict at his feet. “You are my saviour and I submit this verdict at your feet. You always safeguarded and protected me through all these years just as a foetus is protected by a mother in her amniotic fluid bag,” Raja said in his 3-page letter sprinkled with heavy Tamil prose.

At the height of the spectrum scam Karunanidhi refused to make a sacrificial lamb of Raja and defended him, even accusing his critics of targeting the then Telecom Minister on account of him being a Dalit.

Raja, who was at that time critical of the Congress for refusing to buy his theory that the then PM’s office was kept informed of his decision to allocate the spectrum on first come first served basis, questioned, “Who is responsible for tarnishing our image? Although they achieved success for a brief while, they have not been able to succeed fully.”

The former minister reiterated that it was because of his decisions as Telecom Minister that the country witnessed a revolution in IT sector and brought social media networking to the country. “I am eagerly waiting to hear your words,” Raja said in the letter.
