Decomposed body of doctor recovered from her flat

- STAFF REPORTER

The Amboli police have recovered a decomposed body of a 45-year-old gynaecologist from a flat in Andheri (west) on Tuesday. The police said she was a severe diabetic patient and had been living alone in the Four Bungalows of Andheri.

“The gynaecologist Dr Poonam Satpute was living in flat number 5, of Karmveer Bhaurao Patil. The neighbours alerted us after they started receiving stench smell from the flat. Our team immediately reached there and recovered the body and sent it to RN Cooper hospital for post-mortem. The prima facie suggests no foul play in the matter,” said the senior inspector of Amboli police station Bharat Gaikwad.

The viscera sample of Dr Satpute has been preserved and sent to state’s Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Kalina for chemical analysis.

“She might have died three days ago and the body has started decaying,” said another officer attached to Amboli. The police have registered Accidental Death Report (ADR) and further investigations are underway.

The police said her parents live in nearby flat. “Her husband works in Singapore and keeps visiting her. She did not have any child,” added the officer.

Her parents and siblings were present at the RN Cooper hospital in Vile Parle (West) but was not in a condition to talk to media.
