CIVIC CHIEF RECEIVES PROBE REPORT OF 100 ENGINEERS INVOLVED IN ROAD SCAM

- STAFF REPORTER

The much delayed probe report against 100 civic engineers allegedly involved in the road scam unearthed early last year, has finally been submitted to the civic commissioner Ajoy Mehta on Wednesday by the inquiry committee.

Earlier, even after sending show-cause notices to 100 BMC engineers responsible for the maintenance of 34 roads, no further action has been initiated. This was because the engineers, in their reply to the notices, had asked the BMC to provide documents related to 34 roads. But the civic body was struggling to scan these evidence, which includes road contracts and approvals given by the engineers. Hence, civic chief slammed the officers and warned them to complete the inquiry by December 26, 2017 and if at all they further delays probe then strict action will be taken against the officers.

The letter by the civic chief written to the inquiry committee stated, “If the above set time limit of December 26, is not followed strictly, it will be presumed that you are not working in the interest of MCGM (Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai) and are supporting the delinquents by delaying the inquiry and action deemed fit will be initiated against you.”

A senior civic officer cleared as the inquiry report been submitted now its in the hand of commissioner to announce what action will be taken against the guilty officers.

In addition, Mehta has also given a timeline for the phase - II of the inquiry, in which 170 engineers responsible for 200 other roads, are yet to be served with notices for shoddy work. The final report will have to be submitted to the commissioner by January 31.
