TO EVADE ARREST, THIS ADVOCATE HID INSIDE A WASHING MACHINE

The Azad Maidan police have arrested a 54-year old advocate, Manoj Tiwari, in a cheating case. The accused hid beneath a pile of clothes inside a washing machine at his residence at Juhu leading the police on a wild goose chase for three hours.

The accused was wanted by the Azad Maidan police in a cheating case in 2002.Tiwari was arrested in involvemen­t in rupees one lakh cheating case. He was booked for cheating three persons of rupees one lakh by promising them admission in a Bachelor of Education course in a college at Beed. His wife had kept the Azad Maidan and Juhu police teams waiting outside their residence at Juhu in an attempt to allegedly shield the accused by trying to convince the police that he was not at home. Eventually, the police entered the house and found him hiding under a pile of clothes inside the washing machine after desperate attempts of search for three hours at the plush apartment.

According to Vasant Vakhare, Senior Police Inspector, Azad Maidan police station, “We looked for Tiwari in his three-bedroom apartment for three hours.Later, we pulled out clothes from a washing machine from where Tiwari was found.Tiwari has been arrested and sent to judicial custody.”

had given orders to arrest the proclaimed absconding offenders. Tiwari was also wanted by the Pune police in a cheating case of Rs 1 crore.

Meanwhile, the Juhu police have booked his wife for obstructin­g a public servant from dischargin­g his duty. According to Senior Police Inspector, Sunil Ghosalkar, Juhu police station, “Tiwari’s wife has not been arrested as yet.”
