Many would like to believe that the blaze would deter Mumbaikars from partying; however this is not the case. Revellers will bring in the New Year at innumerable restaurants and pubs in Kamala Mills. There are 36 pubs and restaurants, of which four had rooftops. Fire, or fear of safety does not deter partygoers. Following this incident, managements have tightened security measures and plan to accept only those guests who’ve made prior reservations for New Year's eve and there will be no last-minute entries at pubs and restaurants.

Darshan Mayekar, senior staff at Irish House pub, said, “We will accommodate guests only on the basis of prior reservations. We do not

want the pub to be packed beyond its holding capacity as it may create an inconvenience.”

Vervena (Brew pub and Sky Garden), a rooftop in Kamala Mills, has tightened its security measures. “In fact, we conducted a fire drill on Friday to ensure that there are no untoward incidents,” said the manager. She added that parties will be held as per schedule. These restaurants and pubs also intend to deploy more bouncers and recheck all safety measures. Staff members of Bora Bora and BSE pub said that they will be rechecking all safety and security measures for two days to avoid any untoward incidents and that extra bouncers would help guide the crowd and control the situation.

Resto bars claimed that they will maintain security, especially in their kitchens. Bar-owner Ajay Shetty said, “We always have a large number of food orders which increases pressure on our kitchen staff. All inflammable appliances, especially cylinders, will be used with utmost care.”

The fire incident at Kamala Mills has not discouraged pubs, clubs and resto bars from organising New Year's Eve celebration, but it has definitely made them increase their safety and security measures.
