I work in a PR firm which is adjacent to the building where the fire broke out and am anguished and saddened by the incident. A frequent visitor to those restaurants and pubs, I have seen a lot of public pouring due to the holiday season. Allegedly, the fire triggered because of burning the coal served for hukka, but I do believe this could be true as I have seen it myself. The fire alarms were not in place. It’s unfortunate that incidents like these shaken and awaken the system. Strict punitive action should be taken against the guilty. However, I urge all political parties to stop the blame game and rather find a robust way to strengthen fire safety and security system in our city. We cannot lose more lives due to the negligence of the administration. My condolences to the bereaved families who have lost their dear ones and wish a speedy recovery to the injured.
