Safety norms adhered only after fire dept issued notice

After 14 people died due to suffocatio­n in a massive fire broke out in high profiled pub named Mojo Bisto and 1 Above pub on Thursday night, politician from different parties made a beeline at the fire mishap spot early afternoon. Along with Mumbai Mayor, Leader of Opposition (LOP) of BMC Ravi Raja, Legislator Ashish Shelar, Prasad Lad of Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP), Sena legislator Sunil More, Nationalis­t Congress Party(NCP) Sachin Ahir, Yuva sena president Aditya Thackeray and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis visited the spot.

Activist and party member of Maharashtr­a Navnirman Sena (MNS) Mangesh Kalaskar who came to the spot with documents said he had made several complaints regarding illegal structures in Kamala Mills premises earlier in writing, but the BMC had replied stating that there was nothing wrong.

While Nitesh Rane, Congress party legislator said that the fire was not due to short cruicut but due to hookah which was served illegally. He strongly criticised the ruling party for the loss of life.

In addition pther political party leaders also raised question on BMC officials and alleged that due to sheer negligence of BMC the mishap occurred which could have been averted. Ashish Shelar said that the Kamala Mill compound utilised 10 percent more than the allocated floor space index (FSI). And therefore he asked the BMC to look into the matter and take action against those guilty. “We noticed that there was no accessible exit. Investigat­ion needed into the restaurant­s,” Shelar said.

Also, Maharashtr­a Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis visits the site of the fire to review the situation. While speaking to media he said the municipal commission­er has been asked to conduct thorough inquiry and submit a report within 15 days.
