SIDDHANT Ganore, a 21-year-old son of a police officer, was arrested on May 25 in matricide case by Vakola police from Rajasthan after Cyber Cell of Mumbai crime branch had kept his personal gmail as well as social networking accounts on surveillan­ce after he went missing after slitting his mother Dipali’s throat inside his flat on May 24. There were five stab wounds on Dipali’s neck and her both the palms were also wounded. Dipali’s body was found in a pool of blood after her husband Dyaneshwar Ganore, returned home in Vakola of Santa Cruz (East).

Blue Whale suicide case

THE tragic death of school going child, resident of Andheri (east), was connected to a deadly online game ‘Blue Whale Challenge’ in July. But the debate over reason behind his tragic death came to an end after a senior officer ‘ruled out any Blue Whale connection’ and said the boy was ‘depressed’ after a failed love and had committed suicide. “The boy has left a suicide note in which he had written that he was ending his life due to depression. This triggered him to slip into depression and finally end his life,” the officer told the Free Press Journal and categorica­lly ruled out Blue Whale angle behind his death.

Bandra pianist’s mysterious death

The mysterious death of a 29-year-old pianist Karan Joseph remains unsolved in 2017. Joseph allegedly committed suicide on September 9 by jumping from the 12th floor of Concorde apartment in Bandra (West), where he had been residing for ‘'s cell phone was sent to state Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for examining the messages and calls made by hi”Karan spoke to his two friends — one male (58 seconds) and other female (45 seconds) just an hour ago before ending his life. Both of them were abroad when Karan called them,” said PSI Pandit Thackeray, from Bandra police station.

Iqbal Kaskar chargeshee­ted

On September 18, the Thane anti-extortion cell arrested Ibrahim Kaskar, the brother of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and his accomplice­s Mumtaz Ejaz Sheikh and Israr Ali Sayyed for extorting Rs30 lakh from Thane-based builder Suresh Jain. On September 21, the police had filed a second First Informatio­n Report (FIR) at Thane nagar police station against Kaskar, Sayyed and Sheikh for extorting money from a jeweller.

Manjula Shetye killed in jail

Manjula Shetye, a former convict at the Byculla jail was brutally murdered inside the jail on June 23. Jailer Manisha Pokharkar, constables Bindu Naikade, Waseema Shaikh, Shital Shegaonkar, Surekha Gulve and Aarti Shingne, were arrested on July 1 after the report revealed that the contusions were the cause of death.

Cong Corporator Mhatre killed

Manoj Mhatre, the Congress Corporator from Bhiwandi was killed by his cousin Prashant Mhatre on February 14. The Corporator was killed by his cousin due to poitical rivalry. Apart from Prashant, the other arrested accused are Charanjiv Mhatre (22), Rajnikant Mhatre (33), Shashikant Mhatre (30) and Kunal Mhatre (25).Mhatre was arrested by the Anti-extortion Cell of Thane Crime Branch, along with four others, on Wednesday. On the night of February 14,Manoj Mhatre was brutally killed at his building compound. Bullets were fired at him, and he was also assaulted with a sharp weapon.

11 held in Bank of Baroda heist

On November 11, the robbers carried out a heist at Bank of Baroda at Sanpada in Navi Mumbai.30 lockers were tampered and gold jewellery worth Rs 3 crore was stolen. The miscreants had entered the bank by digging a 25feet tunnel across five shops to break into the locker room. The dacoity took place at Sector 11 at plot number 6 near Juinagar railway station. The incident came to light on Monday morning when the bank re-opened and a staff member and customer found the lockers in the treasury room damaged and reported the matter to a senior.

Rail track 'sabotage'

Four incidents of ‘sabotage’ on the Central railways were carried out by miscreants. The railway gangmen had found four gelatin sticks placed between the tracks at Panvel in Raigad and Kalamboli in February this year. This incident has raised concerns of safety and security of the railway passengers. The spurt in such activities is seen as attempt to sabotage the railway traffic and spread fear.

Ryan murder case alarms all schools

Safety and security measures have become a major concern in schools after the incident at Ryan Internatio­nal School, Gurugram. A seven-year-old student of Class 2 was found with his throat slit inside the school toilet on September 8. This incident raised several allegation­s against the Ryan Group which manages a chain of schools in India. Initially, a bus conductor was arrested of being accused of sexually assaulting and murdering the child.
