Pak gave us nothing but lies and deceit

- LALIT K JHA /

In a scathing attack, President Donald Trump on Monday accused Pakistan of giving America nothing but lies and deceit in return for $ 33 billion that previous US governments ‘foolishly’ gave to it in aid.

"The US has foolishly given Pakistan more than 33 billion dollars in aid over the last 15 years, and they have given us nothing but lies & deceit, thinking that our leaders are fools," Trump said in a strongly worded tweet. In the same tweet, Trump also addressed the issue of Pakistan breeding terrorists.

He said, "They (Pakistan) give safe haven to the terrorists we hunt in Afghanistan".

This is the strongest attack that has come from the US President. His remarks came days after the New York Times reported that the US is considering withholding $ 225 million in aid to Pakistan reflecting its dissatisfaction with the latter's reluctance in the war against terrorism.

In November, the US had strongly condemned release of the Mumbai attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed by Pakistan and had demanded his immediate re-arrest and prosecution, warning that there would be "repercussions" for bilateral ties if Islamabad fails to take "decisive action" against the JuD chief.

Trump's tweet comes hours after Jamaat-ud-Dawah chief Hafiz Saeed invited all Islamic states to launch a 'Jihad' against the US and Israel. Saeed, a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) co-founder, was addressing JuD activists at an event at Lahore's Istanbul Chowk. The event was conducted in the wake of the Trump-led administration unilaterally identifying and declaring Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Here is what Saeed had to say -"The day Jerusalem becomes the capital of Israel, a caravan of 'Jihad' will be launched. Pakistan's army chief General (Qamar Javed) Bajwa, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and all leaders of political parties need to unite. Pakistan's atomic bomb is the asset of 'Islam', which should be used to free Jerusalem. This is my open announcement."

Saeed, who is planning to contest the 2018 general elections in Pakistan, had shared stage with Palestine's ambassador to Pakistan Walid Abu Ali a couple of days ago. Ali was immediately recalled by Palestine.
