Today is the age of digital transactions and almost everyone is the part of social media. The trouble lies here as the number of cyber related crimes are increasing despite of awareness.

Therefore, the police department has been conducting awareness and seminars along with some prominent banking experts.

The department of police has important assignments as to interact with citizens of the city. Under the Maharashtra Government’s ‘Transforming Maharashtra’ programme, there are various programmes for cyber awareness are organised.

The seminar on Cyber and economic offences was arranged at Thane’s K C College. The banking expert and the police authorities expressed their views in the seminar. The digital transactions or use of social media with lack of knowledge can land one in trouble, warned the police.

“There is an increase in the cyber or economic crimes as the use of digital transactions and use of social media has increased. Most of the times people tend to share their personal information such as OTP number or pin number or disclose banking transactions and are looted easily. Sometimes the ATM centres are the target of robbers. They can use your ATM card without possessing your card. Sometimes the frauds can lure you to invest money in some fraud schemes and you are looted,” warned Sandeep Bhajibhakre, DCP, Economic Offence Wing, Thane.

The seminar was a part of awareness programme for youths and common people as well. Most of the people are not yet aware of their digital banking transactions, online frauds or many digital frauds as the cheaters can develop new techniques every now and then.
