RERA receives 1409 complaints from home buyers in six months

- STAFF REPORTER

The Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA) has received as many as 1409 complaints from aggreived home buyers between May 2017 to till date. The RERA officials revealed that most of these complaints were related to delay in possession and non availability of agreement copies. The prompt action by MahaRERA has led to the redressal of at least 500 of the total 1409 complaints received.

The ambitious Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act was implemented in May 2017. The act has brought a huge relief to home buyers as they now have a forum to redress their grievances.

The complaints were registered by home buyers between August 2017 to till date. According to the act, the home buyers are now able to approach RERA in case of complaints related to non availability of agreement between the builder and buyer.

“Earlier the buyer had to approach a consumer forum in order to address their grievances. The forum already deals with lakh cases on a daily basis and hence the grievances of the buyers were difficult to be addressed. This act allows both the parties to reach a settlement in case of delay in possession and other complaints,” said Gautam Chatterjee, Chairman of MahaRERA.

Home buyers also registered complaints related to false information mentioned in the agreement.

“The act also allows us to review the information mentioned in the agreement so that the buyers are confident to purchase the said flat. The act states that the differences between buyers and developers to be settled within 60 days. We are making an effort for resettlement between them within 30 days,” added a RERA official.

MahaRERA has come up with a decision of at least 500 projects from August 2017 to till date.

“The home buyers can register a complaint against the developer or builder after paying a fee to RERA amounting to Rs 500,” added the official.
