Metro 4A corridor to be extended from Kasarvadavali to Gaimukh in Thane
The Maharashtra Chief Minister on Friday approved the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the extension of the metro 4 A corrifor from Kasarvadavali to Gaimukh. This decision was taken during a meeting conducted with the officials Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).
The additional corridor is at least 2.6 long km and will add two Metro stations which include Gowniwada and Gaimukh stations. The entire corridor is at least 32 km long WadalaGhatkoparMulund-Thane-Kasarvadavali Metro-4 corridor.
“There is increasing demand for commuting options as the city and its metropolitan region has become thinner. We have also approved the extension to the Wadala- Kasarvadavali Metro-4 corridor upto Gaimukh. In addition to this, we have also approved the Metro 5 corridor from Thane to Bhiwandi,” added Fadnavis.
The authority has also sanctioned Rs 949 crore for the project work, but the state is yet to approve it. The MMRDA has requested Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank for funding the project work. “We would be funding at least Rs 449 crore for the civil work of the project. The project work for this corridor is likely to be completed by March 2022. At least 1.5 lakh riders will be added after the extension to the existing projection of 8.7 lakh commuters that will be carried by the Wadala-Kasarvadavali Metro-4 corridor,” said UPS Madan, Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA.
