Petition demanding POCSO for Thane civic chief filed

A criminal Writ Petition (WP) has been filed against the Thane civic commissioner Sanjeev Jaiswal by petitioner Vikrant Karnik on Thursday.

The petition was filed after a video of the civic chief went viral, which showed Jaiswal employed a minor girl who was misused as a masseuse. After the incident, the girl and her family suddenly disappeared and one fine day returned to record their statements at the anti-extortion cell while the petitioner went on a hunger strike demanding justice for the minor girl.

Karnik has now demanded that Jaiswal be charged under sections of POCSO (protection of children from sexual offences) Act. Advocate S S Bhise and Advocate Sagar Joshi have filed this petition on behalf of Vikrant Karnik in the court of Justice Bhushan Gavai in High Court on Thursday. The matter will come before the hearing on January 18.

Petition claims, the girl was working in the bungalow of the civic chief and besides her regular job, she was forced to be a masseuse to him as well as his colleagues. This sensational revelation came into light when the girl had told about this in a video where she had stated that she used to give the massage to the commissioner. When petitioner tried to look into the matter, the girl was suspended from her job and her rented house was demolished claiming that it was the only house found to to be illegal. Also, the demolition squad threatened to demolish each house in the slum area of Tiikujini wadi, if the girl and her family did not leave the city,claims the petition.
