It A promise to the New You

-

Years come and years go Days pass as the winds flow New year resolution is indeed a pain For the lousy sloth in us, ensures to take it down the drain... is time to refresh our memories and look back on all those journals which we bought on the first of each year, scribbling some amazing doodles and writing resolutions on designer stick ons. If you are reading this then you are compelled to control your smirk for we all have been sailing in the same boat.

However, this New Year is going to be a little quirky and sporadic than the previous ones. It is time to break through the mediocre monotonous resolutions of losing weight or planning for a better lifestyle or even tackling financial constraints. Give a big cheer to the New Year for it’s time to welcome aboard and dedicatedly follow some kooky resolutions.

Cutting the shell

Chasing the limelight is a secret desire we all once cherished however, failed to put into practice giving endless reasons to self and the world. We all need that little push and spur of energy to go for the big jump, says Aakriti Kulkarni who decided on starting a YouTube channel of her own. “I am a regular YouTuber alias the one who would spend hours together buffering through a gazillion videos and getting inspired to start one of my own. However, each New Year this resolution just tasted the dust in my diary which I was determined to dust off this year. I officially started by YouTube channel to speak on happenings of my day to day life. Being an introvert soul I always found it difficult to open up to people and tell them stories of my daily life. Starting this channel came like a blessing in disguise for me to overcome my inhibitions and be the free spirit that I always wanted to be,” she says.

Thou-shalt-not

Books are bae for those who feel that the world is incomplete without a bunch of them. But what if you simply cannot resist the urge of overflowing bookshelves with books you have not read over years? KYashashree saw herself in a similar situation and decided on a resolution of going on a complete book ban for a year. “Books are my mystery door to escape daily hassles for I find eternal solace in their company. Last year my craze of buying books went a tad overboard and I ended up being broke. I also realised that I have books which are lying still wrapped in the boxes that they arrived,” she says.

Elaborating her resolution she adds, “I am on a complete book ban for a year and intend to finish books which I claimed to read last year but will read this year instead. For someone whose first love has always been books, it is indeed difficult to restrain yourself from buying newer ones. This will also help me understand and implement self-control and will also keep my financial investments in control.”

Be the ‘in’ thing

Setting a trend in a country which cannot get over the size zero syndrome is equivalent to chasing the stars. But what is a resolution if you do not intend to accomplish it, feels Shikha Kumar. From filling her wardrobe with XL size tops to buying her first shorts Shikha is unstoppable.

Defining her idea of resolution she says, “I belonged to the breed of people who were ashamed of their own identity. I allowed my mind to get affected by passing comments by people on my body and just to avoid them I ended up hiding every inch of my skin with layers of skin. Gradually it affected my communication with people and I eventually retired to my cocoon.”

Talking about her quaint resolution she says, “I wish to take this resolution of eradicating body shaming completely. I thoroughly believe in the ideology that it is important to be comfortable in your own skin and love it too. I have now started wearing clothes I feel good in, irrespective of what others feel. With this resolution, I also wish to generate a positive vibe that curves are the ‘in’ thing today.”

Lend a helping hand

For corporate slave Sushil Talukdar life revolved around the ticking of a clock, however, this New Year’s he is a changed man. “Working in the corporate sector gave me mental satisfaction of a good job and the physical satisfaction of dedicating time to my family, however, something was always amiss in all this. I always wanted to do something for people who suffer hardships in their life. So this New Year I made a resolution of working on weekends at old age homes or orphanages or rehabilitation centres,” he says. Elucidating his resolution he says, “I have a few friends who are working in NGO’s and I got this idea from them. I will ensure to try my level best to spend as much time as possible in these places and try and help them develop new skills.”
