Cong chides govt on J&K in bad shape, oil prices

-

The Congress on Saturday derided the Modi government for an unprecedented rise of deaths in Jammu and Kashmir and high prices of petrol and diesel despite sharp fall of crude oil prices in the international markets.

Is this meaning of PM’s 56 inch chest and is this the meaning of ‘Achchhe din’ (good days) promised by him in 2014, Congress chief spokesman Randeep Singh Surjewala asked.

Reviewing situation in J&K in the last 44 months of the Modi government, he said there were 204 major terror incidents in the state as against 89 during the same period of 44 months during the UPA regime.

As regards deaths in J&K, he said 278 Jawans were martyred in 44 months of the BJP rule at the Centre as against 112 during the UPA regime, while the number of civilians killed shot up to 135 from 71 during the UPA time.

Most shocking, Surjewala said is a massive spurt in the major ceasefire violations – 2384 in the past 44 months as against 462 during the same period in the UPA regime while 58 Indian Jawans were killed in these violations as against 19 during the UPA period. Turning to high petrol and diesel prices, he said petrol was selling at Rs 71.51 a litre and diesel Rs 57.29 a litre on May 16, 2014 when the UPA relinguished power and when crude oil as selling at $107.09 a barrel.

Today, the crude oil price is down to $68.25 a barrel and yet petrol is selling at Rs 71.70 a litre and diesel at Rs 62.44 a litre, Surjewala underlined.
