Retired army officials share heroic stories

Army officials have many stories to share with civilians, but in rare occasion do they get to mix up and share their journey with them, said 64-year old retired major Ajaib Singh. Adding to it, Major General Ian Cardozo said that there is a need for more youngsters to join the army. This was among the many messages army officials had to given during their marathon.

Singh started participat­ing in marathons after his retirement. Singh said, “I enjoy it. I will continue running as long as I can.” There are so many army officers who attended the marathon but what makes him special is the metal fixation in his leg.

Sharing his journey, he said, “In 2002, few years before I retired, I came face-to-face with militants and during that retaliatio­n, the militant fired in my leg.” Post that he had to get a fixation in his leg. “The journey since then was different.” While, 81-year-old Cardozo who lost his leg in 1971 war, said, “He decided to continue in service with one leg and rose to the post of major general. India should be the best country in the world.”

Cardozo hoped that through his participat­ion, he would be able to encourage more youngsters to join army. “India should not just be a powerful country but should be the best country. More youngster should come forward to join the army.”

This edition saw many army officials participat­ing.
