BJP’s move to lock MBMC offices invites Sena’s wrath

- SURESH GOLANI

The step by the BJP-led governance to lock and boycott their offices in the main administrative building of the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) to protest civic chief ’s autocratic style of functioning has drawn flak not only from the opposition and bureaucracy, but also from citizens and local social activists.

While Sena legislator Pratap Sarnaik has threatened that his corporators will take over the offices and start working from there if the BJP fails to mend its ways, the Congress has vowed to stand in support of the civic chief.

“Instead of indulging in such stunts, the BJP office bearers should instead tender their resignations,” challenged Congress leader Rajkumar Mishra. The seething tension between the BJP rulers and the civic chief flared on Friday, after all officer bearers including Mayor, Dy Mayor, Standing Committee Chairman, House Leader, Chairperson and Dy Chairperson of the Women and Child Welfare panel and all six ward chiefs locked and walked out of their offices in protest.

When contacted, Standing Committee chief Dhruv Kishor Patil said, “We are fed up with the impractical commissioner. Although we have locked our office in protest, as responsible office bearers continue to serve citizens from our private offices, to avoid any type of inconvenience,” said Dhruv Kishor Patil
