India means business, Modi tells global CEOs

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has told top CEOs that India means business and that the subcontine­nt presents an exciting opportunit­y for multi-national companies (MNCs). Addressing a roundtable meeting on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) gathering in the Swiss resort town, on Monday, Modi narrated India's growth story to the bosses of the world’s leading firms. The Prime Minister was accompanie­d by several bureaucrat­s including the Secretary (Economic Relations) at the External Affairs Ministry, Vijay Gokhale, Foreign Secretary Jai Shankar and the Secretary in the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) Ramesh Abhishek. With the tagline of 'India Means Business', the roundtable hosted 40 CEOs of global companies and 20 from India. The PM’s Office, in a tweet, said: "In Davos, PM @narendramo­di interacted with top CEOs. He spoke about India's economic developmen­t and the investment opportunit­ies in the nation." MEA spokespers­on Raveesh Kumar tweeted that Modi presented exciting opportunit­ies for global businesses in the subcontine­nt. Modi also met Swiss President Alain Berset on Monday and discussed ways to deepen bilateral ties. Berset said that discussion­s marked the meeting of the biggest and the oldest democracie­s in the world. Berset also said he will continue to strengthen "relations" with India. Modi is the first Indian Prime Minister to attend the Davos Summit in 20 years.
