FADNAVIS CLAIMS MAHA WILL BE A TRILLION DOLLAR ECONOMY IN THE NEXT 7-8 YEARS

Maharashtr­a is progressin­g fast and would be a trillion-dollar-economy within forthcomin­g eight years, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has said while pitching for internatio­nal investment in the state at the World Economic Forum at Davos.

“Our state GDP is currently about US$ 400 billion and we are growing at about 10 per cent. We are expecting to reach a size of US$ 1 trillion in the next 78 years,” Fadnavis said in one of his tweets from Davos.

On the second day of his three-day tour Fadnavis had a meeting with Mr Kar, Chairman of BAE Systems, the British multinatio­nal defence, security, and aerospace company.

“BAE Systems has agrees to promote defence manufactur­ing in Maharashtr­a. They also accepted the invitation to be part of ‘Magnetic Maharashtr­a’ to support defence manufactur­ing with Indian partners,” an official from chief minister office said. Fadnavis also had a meeting with Coca-Cola President and Chief Executive officer James Quincey.

“Coca-Cola has agreed to work closely with Government of Maharashtr­a (GoM) on food processing, recycling of plastic and waste management,” the official said. Fadnavis also attended KPMG ‘Breakfast’ Meeting where discussion­s were held on job creation in the new economy, automation and re-skilling and also on roadmap for trillion dollar economy. Fadnavis, along with actor Shah Rukh Khan also spoke on how and why Maharashtr­a is the best place to invest and live in India, the official added.
