BMC officials booked for molesting woman

The Pantnagar police have booked two Brihanmumb­ai Municipal Corporatio­n (BMC) officers on Tuesday evening for molesting a 35-year-old woman in Ghatkopar.

The police have also lodged a cross First Informatio­n Report against the woman for deterring public servant from dischargin­g his duties.

Yogesh Tivarekar and Sandesh Pendharkar, BMC officials from ‘N’ ward office at Ghatkopar have been booked by the police on the complaint filed by Sonali Teravnakar,a Right to Informatio­n(RTI) activist.

While the two officials have been booked for assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty (Section 354) of the Indian Penal Code, the woman has been booked for assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty (Section 353), intentiona­l insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace (Section 504) and criminal intimidati­on (Section 506) of the Indian Penal Code.

As per Teravnakar’s statement to the police,“I had visited the N ward office of BMC on Tuesday morning around 12 pm when the accused touched me inappropri­ately and started abusing me in filthy language.” Following the incident, Teravnakar immediatel­y approached the police and lodged a complaint on Tuesday late night.

As per the cross complaint filed by Pendharkar, Teravnakar misbehaved with Pendharkar, when she had visited the office to gather informatio­n about illegal constructi­on work at Ghatkopar.

As per the cross complaint, she also abused Tivarekar and threatened the two officials that she would send them to jail.
