In a first, MHADA to build homes outside Mumbai now
Private developers will be roped in to construct flats on MHADA-owned land
In a first, Maharashtra Housing Area Development Authority (MHADA) is set to begin its housing projects in areas of Thane, Mira Road and Virar. The housing authority has planned to construct at least 5000 housing complexes in these areas by 2021.
The decision to construct houses in these areas were planned as the city is already facing with space crunch. The authorities have planned to construct at least 3800 residential apartments in Bolinj village located in Virar. "The construction work is set to be completed in this area by March 2018," said a MHADA official. The MHADA has planned to conduct a lottery based sale of apartments in Virar and it is set to be sold off in May.
“Apart from Virar, we have chalked out a plan to construct as many as 10,000 buuldings in Konkan division,” added the official.
The transfer of flats to lottery winners will be done only after the winners complete the payment. "The Konkan division will have a separate lottery based allotment scheme through which flats will be sold off to the winners. The final decision of the same is yet to be taken," added the official.
Citing property demands and development of thane city, the authorities have planned for constructing at least 1492 flats in the same area. "Among these flats, at least 1100 flats will be constructed at Manpada and at least 392 flats will be constructed in Balkum area of Thane," added the official.
The construction work of one set of such buildings would be completed by March 2019 and the remaining would be completed by March 2020.
In Mira Road, two projects with at least 180 each residential flats will be constructed. The project is set to completed by March 2020.
The officials said the private developers would be roped in for constructing flats on MHADA owned land parcels. "The tendering process for the same is underway," said a MHADA official.
