The Romanian national was intercepted at Dubai airport after a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued by Mumbai police after the arrest of a 34-year-old Romanian national Nedelu Valentin Ionit, who was caught red-handed while removing a skimmer he had fitted to an Axis bank ATM of Ambawadi area of Dahisar (east).

The source said Ionit’s accomplice (in his 30s) was fleeing from Mumbai to Paris via Dubai and was intercepted at Dubai airport. He has been deported to Mumbai. The Consulate of Romania in Mumbai had been informed about their arrests.

A group of four Romanian nationals had come to Mumbai last month on tourist visa.

“Total four Romanian nationals had come to Mumbai. We have arrested two of them and the search for their two absconding accomplices is underway,” said an officer. The passport and visa details of both the Romanian nationals have been verified at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA). At present the investigators are taking the help of technical experts to ascertain the number of customers visited the ATM kiosk at Dahisar’s Ambawadi area where the gang had planted a skimmer to steal customer’s debit card details.

The Dahisar police came in action after the Axis bank officials, while refilling the cash, noticed something unusual device fitted in the card opening slot of ATM machine. The bank officials got alarmed and alerted Dahisar police, who laid a trap and arrested Ionit red handed on Tuesday evening.

The investigators are retrieving details from the hotels where they lived together.
