DMRC to approach WR for rail blocks

- STAFF REPORTER

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), the executing body for the Metro 2A corridor, plans to approach Western Railway (WR) seeking rail blocks for construction of a bridge above the tracks near Dahisar station. The official said they need at least four blocks during the night so they can start the construction.

A senior official said they recently got a permission from WR for the Metro bridge above the railway tracks near Dahisar station for which they will require railway blocks.

“As we are planning to take the Metro-2A corridor passing above the railway tracks near Dahisar station in order to connect the Metro-2A corridor with the Andheri East Dahisar East Metro-7 corridor at Anand Nagar near Western Express Highway, for westeast connectivity railway block is compulsory,” added DRMC official.

He further added WR might have to change time-table of the trains so that construction does not stop. “The blocks will have to be taken from 12 am to 4 am, and for this WR might have to change timetable for their late night or

early morning local train timings, and also ensure there is no movement of any mail trains in these four hours when the block is taken,” added official.

According to officials, constructing the Metro bridge above the railway tracks will be the most challenging task in the whole corridor as work will be carried in only night hours. “The time will be insufficient as we have to complete work by January 2019, but we also cannot have blocks for Metro bridge in the day time considering the volume of people that use local trains in the city,” added DMRC official.

The DMRC is constructing the DN Nagar-Dahisar 18.59km-long Metro-2A corridor on behalf of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority, and the alignment of the whole corridor is on the Linking Road.
