Rahul questions Modi over Pakistan policy
Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday slammed Prime Minister Modi for dithering on the Pakistan policy.
He also referred to the discordant notes coming out from Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti calling for a dialogue with Pakistan and BJP’s defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman saying Pakistan will pay the price.
“While our soldiers pay with their blood for BJP/PDP’s opportunistic alliance (in J&K) and nonexistent Kashmir policy, Modi ji dithers,” Rahul said in a tweet soon after return from three days of Karnataka’s whirlwind tour.
His tweet showed the contradiction:
1. PDP says “talks” with Pakistan.
2. BJP Defence Minister says “Pakistan will pay the price.”
The same sentiments were stressed by the Congress at the AICC press briefing, taunting at the BJP running with the hare and hunting with the hound. Conflicting views of Mufti and Sitharaman amply demonstrated the policy confusion, Congress spokesman Manish Tewari said.
He also mounted on his Twitter handle an old video of Modi as then Gujarat CM asking five questions on terrorism to then Manmohan Singh government and said “he should better answer these questions in the context of own track record” as these questions remain relevant and germane to the problem even today.
Noting varying prescriptions on the sensitive matter by the J&K coalition and the Centre, he asked: “Why is the coalition continuing? We ask Prime Minister Narendra Modi to explain his position on the suggestion given by the J&K chief minister to talk to Pakistan.
“We are deeply concerned as our soldiers are dying daily. There have been 206 major terror strikes in the past 45 months since Modi Government took over. The number of ceasefire violations since then is 2274.”
