Senior citizen attempts ‘suicide’ with cough syrup near Mantralaya

In an attempt to hoodwink the police, Sakhubai Karbhari Zalte (65) consumed a bottle of cough syrup opposite Mantralaya at the media gate.The security officials at Mantralaya and the police felt that Zalte had committed suicide and rushed her to the hospital.

According to the police, the lady wanted to grab the eye-balls of the politician­s and the media in order to get done with a land acquisitio­n case.The security guards at the gate presumed that it was another attempt of suicide. Zalte is a resident of Vadgaon, Chandvad near Nashik. Her 20-year-old son was also present at the time of the incident.

Zalte was speaking to a constable before she consumed the cough syrup. When the constable stationed over there saw Zalte consuming the syrup, he rushed to her side and stopped the lady as a precaution­ary measure. Zalte had consumed 5 ml of the cough syrup.

Speaking to the Free Press Journal, Manoj Kumar Sharma, Deputy Commission­er of Police (Zone 1), “Zalte has been fighting a court case at Nashik since 1997. His brother-in-law has usurped her land at her native place at Chandvad at Nashik. The Collector at Nashik has passed a stay order on the land. Zalte wants that she should get her share in the property and the case should be disposed off at the earliest.”

The woman informed the police that her father-in-law had died leaving a farm of 3.57 hector land. After his death in 1947, the family had difference­s and claims over the land. The document of 7/12 had the names of both the family members of Jhalte and her eight cousins including Valmiki Jhalte. The fight between the both escalated to the government officials after she filed a complaint. The decision was in favour of the woman.However, when the encroachme­nt was to be razed, her brother-in-law challenged the order which The woman wanted to claim her right on the land and wanted the possession.”

“Zalte had not met any official at Mantrayala before she attempted the stunt.We have not yet registered any case against Zalte, “added Sharma.

According to an officer, “Zalte wanted to grab eyeballs of the politician­s and the media.So,she attempted this stunt. It has become a practice now that any layman visits areas around Mantralaya to grab attention, so that any minister and the media would solve their problems.”
