Construction work of MTHL to begin from next month

The construction work of the ambitious Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) is set to begin in March with the completion of the on-going geological survey by the planning authority.

The survey which is being conducted by Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) began from January 15 onwards. This was necessary in order to assess the soil before the construction work begins for this project work.

The survey is being conducted by a team of four contractors who have been finalized for MTHL project.

“The contractors have used boats for the survey in order to venture into the sea to conduct the soil testing work. Currently, the land on which the piers are set to be erected is being assessed, to study if the venture is feasible. The soil will also be tested for its bearing capacity before the construction work begins for this project,” said Sanjay Khandare, Additional Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA.

would be prepared by the team of contractors. “This design would be incorporated during the construction work of MTHL,” said an MMRDA official.

The entire project work has been divided into three phases and separate contractors have been assigned for each phase. In the first phase, the bridge will be constructed upto 10.38 kms from Sewri and in the 2nd phase, it would extend up to 18.18kms. In the 3rd phase, it is set expected to extend till village Chirle. The 22-km long MTHL sea link is set to provide easy access to Navi Mumbai, Pune Expressway and also to southern India.
