Fire breaks out at Thane’s commercial building, one fire officer injured

THANE: Fire broke out in a builder’s office on Tuesday injuring a firefighte­r while he was on duty. No other casualties were reported, but the building had been sealed for security reasons. The building also houses an hospital and the patients, including a two-day-old infant were shifted elsewhere as the fire broke out. Samarth Arcade in Uthalsar area of Thane is a fivefloore­d building where an office of a developer caught fire around. As the fire broke out on Tuesday, passersby who saw smoke emanating from the building alerted the fire brigade. Two fire engines, two rescue engines and a water tanker was rushed by the fire department. Also the disaster management team of the civic body were present and evacuated the building. “We shifted the patients from Prathmesh hospital to a safe place that is in the building. There was an infant and relatives of two patients, moreover there were staff members inside the hospital when the fire broke out. While the dousing operations were on, one of our fire fighter was injured and he was immediatel­y admitted to a nearby hospital,” Santosh Kadam, officer, Disaster Management Cell, TMC, said.
