Karnataka, Udaya struggle to make final

MUMBAI: Karnataka SC and Udaya SC, both scored hard-fought semifinal victories to set up a clash in the final of the 22nd Late Shri Ramanath Payyade Memorial Football Tournament 2017-18, organised by the Karnatak Sporting Associatio­n and played at the KSA ground, Cross Maidan. In the first semi-final, Karnataka overcame Satya Vijaya SC 7-5 via the tie-breaker after the match finished in a tense, exciting 2-2 draw. In the second semi-final clash, Udaya managed to edge past Mangalore Blues SC by a 6-4 margin also via the penalty shootout duel as the gamed was locked in a 1-all stalemate. Results: Karnataka SC 7 (Charnel Almeida 3, Adnan Yalgar, Brendon D’Souza, Valentine Periera, Alviro Fernandes) beat Satya Vijaya SC 5 (Tushar Poojary 2, Revel Kunder, Shrinath, Melwyn Castelino) via the tie-breaker. Full-time – 2-2. Udaya SC 6 (Savardhan Shetty 2, Mohit Gatti, Oliver Castelino, Prashant Anchan, Mikhail Rebeiro) beat Mangalore Blues SC 4 (Leroy Gonsalves, Rishil Shetty, Adtya Shetty, Avinash Bangera) via the tie-breaker. Full-time 1-1.
