Kathua replay in UP, now

Andhra family identifies Surat girl victim

-

There seems to be no let-up in crimes against children in Uttar Pradesh. Another shocking incident of a sevenyear-old girl allegedly being raped and strangulated to death has come to light. She was attending a wedding ceremony and assaulted by a man who was hired to set up tents on the occasion.

Livid over the incident, the victim's family blocked the Etah-Farrukhabad road while opposition parties slammed the Yogi Adityanath government for the "sudden spurt" in rape cases. The body of the girl was found in an underconstruction house in the vicinity of the marriage venue. A rope was found around dangling from her neck.

SURAT GIRL IDENTIFIED? A family from Andhra Pradesh has come forward to identify the child who was raped and tortured before being killed and dumped in Surat.

The girl's parents have arrived in Surat and will soon undergo a DNA test. The child had gone missing in October last year, the police said. Her parents had filed a missing person report with the state police, but it was not suspected that she would be found in Gujarat. The parents identified the girl from the photos tweeted by the Surat police.

BJP LEADER LEADS RALLY: In Kathua, meanwhile, BJP leader Lal Singh, who had resigned recently from the state cabinet, on Tuesday led a rally in support of the CBI probe into the incident and called for the resignation of J&K CM Mehbooba Mufti for her "failure" to address the issue.
