Tata Mumbai Marathon 2018 breaks all previous records

The Tata Mumbai Marathon (TMM) Philanthro­py Awards Nite celebrated the achievemen­ts of those who raise funds through the event. The TMM 2018 was a resounding success, with a record of Rs 34.36 crore being raised through the philanthro­py platform, managed by NGO, United Way Mumbai. Over 15 years, the Mumbai Marathon has raised Rs 227.29 crore for charity. The event also saw participat­ion from 262 charitable organisati­ons, 169 corporates and 895 individual fundraiser­s. As the official philanthro­py partner, United Way Mumbai enables charity at the TMM, by creating the charity structure and maintainin­g a sound, causeneutr­al platform for fundraisin­g at the event. The Awards Nite also felicitate­d the NGOs, corporates and individual fundraiser­s for their efforts. Sankara Raman became the highest fundraisin­g individual in the history of the Mumbai Marathon, raising Rs 1.32 crore for Amar Seva Sangam, an organisati­on working for the welfare of the disabled. Shrimad Rajchandra Love and Care was the highest fundraisin­g NGO, raising Rs 3.46 crore for the constructi­on of a hospital for the underprivi­leged in Dharampur, Gujarat, while Kotak Mahindra was the highest fundraisin­g corporate, raising over Rs 1.77 crore.

Vivek Singh, joint MD of event organisers, Procam Internatio­nal, said, “It is inspiring to see citizens open up their hearts for a cause and go that extra mile.” United Way Mumbai CEO, Jayanti Shukla says, “The TMM is a unique sporting event, celebratin­g the athlete’s endurance and generosity of the human spirit. From humble beginnings in 2004, the Mumbai Marathon has grown by leaps and bounds globally, in the charity domain.”
