MHADA lottery for this year to be delayed by two months

The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) lottery for this year is set to be delayed by two months as the verification of flats are yet to be completed and clearances from the Real Estate Regulatory Authority are pending. The authority has not yet to receive the occupational certificates (OC) from the civic body.

The housing body has planned a lottery for at least 1000 flats this year and is likely to be held in July as against in May.

“The RERA act came into force last November and it was being implemented slowly. Today, all housing projects are need to be registered under RERA which has delayed the lottery process this year,” said a senior MHADA official.

The officials said that this delayed the process for getting the OC from the civic body. “We also have to get several No-objection Certificates (NOCs) from competent authority which is delayed the process of receiving the OC,” added the official.

The authority has planned to conduct a lottery for at least 1000 houses by constructing maximum houses under Economic Weaker Section (EWS) category this year. The authority has planned to construct at least 400 houses under EWS category.

The officials said that more efforts are being taken to construct more houses under EWS category as against the previous year’s allocation, where only 192 houses were constructed in the same category.

“We have planned to allot at least 200 flats under the category of Middle Income Group (MIG) and 380 houses under Lower Income Group (LIG),” added the official.

Among the 400 houses to be constructed under EWS, 100 flats would be reserved in areas of Mankhurd and around 300 flats have been planned to be constructed in Antop Hill.

“Last year, the lottery was conducted for 819 apartments. This year, we had sought reports from executive engineers on the availability of flats under each category and provide maximum flats to all categories,” added the official.

The authority yet to complete verification by RERA; OC from civic body also delayed.
