Miscreants find new way to loot, woman arrested

The robbery bid of a gang of four, including a woman, was foiled outside Grant Road station on Wednesday afternoon after two passers-by timely informed Mumbai police who nabbed the lady while her three male accomplices managed to give them a slip.

Two friends, carrying Rs 2 lakh, reached Grant Road from Bandra station and were waiting outside the station for hiring a taxi to go to Pydhonie on Wednesday afternoon when a 35-year-old lady accosted them and started to yell at the duo alleging that she has been molested.

“It is a new modus operandi to rob people in busy street. The lady alleged that she has been molested by the men waiting in queue for taxi. In few minutes, her three male accomplices joined her and caught the men by collar

Meanwhile, the duo boarded a taxi but the robbers pulled them out of the vehicle and punched them in their stomach,” one of the eye-witness told the Free Press Journal.

The DB Marg police station is hardly 5-minute walk from the crime scene. The visibly terrified men were crying for help and saying ‘we have not done anything to the lady. These people are a making ground to rob us of our hardearned money.’

“It was a broad daylight and there were a number of taxi drivers as well as local eateries vendors but none of them mustered their courage to help the duo,” the eye-witness added.

Meanwhile, two men run to the DB Marg police station and informed officials.

“We immediately sent one team to the spot and arrested the woman. Her three male accomplices managed to flee from the spot before our teach reached. They have decamped with the cell-phone of one of the victims but the cash is safe,” inspector Dayanand Chougule (Law & Order) at DB Marg police station told the Free Press Journal.
