Activists question Bhujbal’s month-long hospitalisation

The dean of the King Edward Memorial hospital said once the health condition of former National Congress Party leader Chaggan Bhujbal improves, soon he will be shifted to the Sir Jamshedji Jeejeebhoy (JJ)Hospital.

But it seems some of the activists are not happy over Bhujbal being admitted to hospital over a month for acute pancreatitis where patients get discharged within ten days.

“Patient gets to stay at a hospital for not more than eight days for an acute pancreatitis. But in the case of Bhujbal, he has been kept over month and if he has been recovered then there is no point in keeping him in the hospital,” said one of the activists.

The hospital authority refused to answer the query raised by the activist stating KEM hospital is the only public hospital that has the best medical experts to provide treatment for his ailment and it takes at least two to three months for patient to recover.

“We are following to court orders and not favouring Bhujbal. The treatment itself takes two to three months but as per our experts he is responding well. Once his health is improved completely we will shift him to JJ hospital,” said Dr Avionash Supe, Dean of KEM hospital.

Bhujbal, who is convected in money laundering charges was taken to JJ hospital on March 2 after he complained of chest pain. But when the diagnostic reports came clean, the hospital refused to admit him. Later, again he complained of abdomen pain. Following which, on March 13, a special court allowed him to undergo two tests at King Edward Memorial Hospital which are not available at JJ Hospital where he was admitted at that time.
