City corporators have sought clarity on the zebra crossings and other road beautification projects that vanish in a week even after applying fresh paints.

Corporators smell foul play in the tenders that are being brought about are without any prior considerations and lack expert help.

“This is a suspicious proposal. We already have had seven such tenders, each costing Rs 4 crore, passed. Why should there be another such proposal wherein we know the paint used to mark speed breakers and zebra crossings fade within a week?” asked Congress Party group leader Ravi Raja.

Congress corporator Asif Zakaria said either there is not adequate technology to sustain the paint or there is lack of intent to bring in better quality paints.

Rais Shaikh, corporator and leader of the Samajwadi Party said, “If every corporator is alleging that the roads are not marked and painted, and yet the tenders are being passed, where exactly is all the money then?”

Bhartiya Janata Party group leader Manoj Kotak asked for specific details on how and where these paints were used so that people come to know in how many days the markings come off.

Vijay Singal, Assistant Municipal Commissioner, said the civic body has sent the thermostat paints for lab test and only after the samples are passed the contractor will be paid.

“Road discipline and security is a very important point in the city and we shall ensure that the value of funds will not be compromised,” said Singal.
