IDOL students face delay in FYBCom, FYBA semesters

- STAFF REPORTER

Students of Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL) of Mumbai University (MU) appearing for semester examinations of First Year Bachelor of Commerce (FYBCom )and Arts (FYBA) faced inconvenience on Monday. Students received their hall tickets just one day before the examination and the paper was delayed due to non-availability of staff.

Around 15,000 students appearing for second semester of FYBCom and FYBA course had to wait for 30 minutes though the paper was scheduled to begin at 10 am. Students reached the IDOL centre at MU campus at Kalina before time but complained of non-availability of staff. The examination began half an hour late and students were then given extra time at the end of examination. Students of IDOL come from distant districts and regions just to appear for semester examinations. Sachin Mahadeo, a student said, “We reached IDOL centre on time but we were then directed to go to respective centres to appear for the examination. We come once in a year to IDOL because all of us are either working or staying at distant regions which is why we have taken admission at IDOL.”

In addition, students also complained their hall tickets were delayed.

The university claimed students were given extra time for the time which was wasted at the start of the paper. Also, students had to initially report at IDOL and then be directed to various centres like Garware Institute, Psychology department and Shankarrao Chavan Academy within university campus. Vinod Malale, public relations officer of IDOL, said, Teachers and other staff involved in examination have been instructed to come before time for the examination to avoid any delay.
