JMJ clinches MDFA Div-II crown

JMJ Sports Club completed another successful season as they claimed the claimed the Second Division title. Exhibiting plenty of grit and determinat­ion JMJ Sports managed to eke out a close 1-0 win against Mother Theresa Foundation in the Second Division final of the MDFA League 2017-18 and the played at the St. Xavier’s ground, Parel. Striker Elvin Fernandes was the hero of JMJ Sports as he scored the lone goal of the match.

For the second successive season JMJ Sports Club emerged champions after they had clinched the Third Division crown last year.

In an evenly contested summit clash, both team adopted an attacking approach and the match produced plenty of exciting moments at either end. JMJ Sports finally managed to get the breakthrou­gh when Elvin Fernandes latched on to Danny Fernandes pass and unleashed a powerful shot from the edge of the area to strike the crucial winning goal in the 30th minute. Thereafter, JMJ Sports hung dearly to their lead till the final whistle.

Mother Theresa, who had defeated JMJ Sports 2-1 in the initial phase of the competitio­n, tried their best to get back into the game as they went on an all-out attack in the second period and launched quite a number of raids towards the opponents’ citadel. But, the JMJ Sports defenders were resolute in their defending and did well to deny the rival attackers from getting a clear shot at their goal and emerge victorious.

The champions JMJ Sports and runners-up Mother Theresa Foundation will be presented with their Trophies and the prize-money during the MDFA Awards Night to be held on Monday, April 30.

Both JMJ Sports and Mother Theresa Foundation earned promotion to the First Division from next season.
